The study analyses and measures the current level of competitiveness and integration of EU Member States and the EU as a whole, highlighting Europe’s ability and opportunities to act as a unified system and to positively affect Member States’ behaviour. This year the project focuses also on two additional areas:
- the European Single Market, monitoring the implementation of the single Market Act and proffering new concrete proposals to enhance it;
- the EU Budget for 2014-2020, identifying areas of policy that can spur pan-European investment and growth.
The study is overseen by the Advisory Board "Observatory on Europe", composed of experts on key subject areas as well as business leaders representing the companies involved in the project.
The Advisory Board comprises Hendrik Bourgeois (Vice President European Affairs, GE), Valerio De Molli (Managing Partner, The European House - Ambrosetti), Alfonso Zapata (General Manager, ING Direct Italy), Livio Vanghetti (Vice President Corporate Affairs EU, Philip Morris International), Roberto Zangrandi (Director, European Institutional Relations, ENEL), and other experts including Antonio Borges (Professor of Economics at Catolica Lisbon School of Business and Economics; Former Director of the European Department of the International Monetary Fund), Vladimir Dlouhý (Former Minister of Economy, Czechoslovakia; Former Minister of Industry and Trade, The Czech Republic), and Wolfgang Schüssel (former Chancellor, Austria).
Speakers included Michel Barnier (European Commissioner for the Single Market) and all Advisory Board members. Chair: Stephen Fidler (Brussels Bureau Chief, Wall Street Journal).
