The first International Forum on Food and Nutrition, promoted by the Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition in collaboration with The European House-Ambrosetti, set itself the goal of providing concrete answers to the current and future needs of our society on the major issues tied to food and nutrition.
At the Forum, the Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition, through its Advisory Board of internationally-renowned experts, presented the strategy papers prepared over an entire year of activity.
The Forum — which has the official backing of the Italian Senate, Chamber of Deputies and President of the Council of Ministers, as well as the City of Rome, Ministry of the Environment and Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry — was divided into four sessions: "Food for All", "Food for Health", "Food for Sustainable Growth" and "Food for Culture", whose purpose was to examine the complex relationship between food, the economy, environmental sustainability, health and culture.
Among the numerous speakers were Israeli President Shimon Peres, former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar, environmental scientist and activist Vandana Shiva, Deputy Director-General of the FAO Jim Butler, economist Mario Monti and oncologist Umberto Veronesi.
