Europe’s Competitiveness at a Crossroads

In the current geopolitical and economic context, strengthening Europe's competitiveness is a necessity. Global fragmentation, trade barriers, technological disruption, and the green transition are reshaping value chains and investment flows. In this context, the European Union must act decisively to ensure that its policy frameworks foster innovation, investment, productivity, and industrial resilience.

This topic was addressed at the Round Table "Europe’s Competitiveness at a Crossroads: a stocktaking one year after the Letta and Draghi Reports", which took place in Brussels on September 25, 2025.

Building on a Position Paper produced by TEHA Group, which examines the current state of European competitiveness, this high-level event brought together prominent figures from the policy and industrial spheres, alongside academics and thought leaders, to reflect on the progress and gaps in Europe’s competitiveness, one year after the publication of the Letta and Draghi Report.

Following the keynote by Enrico Letta (Dean, IE School of Politics, Economics & Global Affairs; Rapporteur on the Future of the EU Single Market), and the presentation of the Position Paper by Lorenzo Tavazzi (Senior Partner and Board Member, TEHA Group) the event featured two panel discussions. The first explored the different dimensions of competitiveness - where the EU must increase its capacity to act - while the second focused on sustainability reporting and simplification.

Our thanks to the speakers: Esko Aho (China Office of Finnish Industries), Ann Mettler (Energy Resilience Leadership Group), Andris Piebalgs (European University Institute), Stéphane Saurel (European Investment Bank), Outi Slotboom (Supply Chains and Business Analysis, European Commission), Matteo Carlo Borsani (Confindustria), Bartek Czyczerski (Business & Science Poland), Markus Kerber (Political Coordinator and Strategy Advisor to the Christian Democratic Union of Germany), Noëlle Lenoir (Noëlle Lenoir Avocats; ICC France), Andrei Marcu (European Roundtable on Climate Change and Sustainable Transition).

The meeting was moderated by TEHA's Laura Basagni (Head of Brussels Office) and Chiara Scalamandrè (Consultant - Intelligence & Scenarios).

The event was supported by ExxonMobil.
