Parenting support at The European House - Ambrosetti

On March 1, 2022, the universal allowance for dependent children (“assegno unico e universale per i figli a carico”) enters into force in Italy, replacing the complex scenario of measures to support families and the birth rate with one allowance.

The reform gives greater recognition to the social and collective value of children as resources for the community. At The European House – Ambrosetti, we believe that parenting is an extraordinary opportunity to develop new energies, skills and abilities that are vital in professional life as well, and represents an added value for the individual, the team and the whole organization.

In our efforts to create a work environment based on equal opportunities and inclusivity, we set three goals in 2021:

  • Create a widespread culture of equality, starting from the parental experience
  • Better support for returning to work
  • Enhancing the experience of parenting

In practice, we have introduced support measures for our new families, also in the case of adoption or custody, starting in June 2021. All such measures were made retroactive to cover the whole year.

  • Extension of remote work: up to 100% remote work until 12 months after the birth
  • Maternity/paternity bonus: an additional compensation for employees with VAT
  • Nanny/Nursery bonus: an economic contribution to support new parents who have to reconcile private and working life
  • Baby days: 5-day paid leave for the child’s introduction into nursery and 3-day paid leave for elementary school.

These measures have been added to existing initiatives, such as the Birth Gift (a voucher for the purchase of childcare items).

With the occasion, we renew a wish to all new mothers and fathers in the company, and we are ready to welcome and support the new families that will come.

L'assegno unico e universale per i figli a carico

The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance has launched a reform after noting that the existing system of support for families is too complex and inefficient, and is affected from a discrimination based on income. In fact, it has not always granted adequate support for the poorest families and, so far, only a little more than half of the Italian families with children have been able to benefit from both the Household Allowance (ANF) and the deductions for dependent children.

The lump-sum allowance will be an economic benefit awarded every year, which will be valid for the period between March and the following year’s February. It is paid to families on the basis of their economic condition, attested by the Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator (ISEE), and is payable for every child under 18 or over, until the age of 21. The amount might increase if certain conditions are met, for example in relation to the number of children, disability, or at the young age of the mother.

This measure replaces previous benefits, such as the birth allowance ("Bonus mamma domani"), the newborn allowance ("Bonus Bebè"), the Household Allowance and other deductions for dependent children under the age of 21. The allowance for families with three children ("Bonus tre figli") is also repealed. Instead, the municipal maternity allowance of 1,700 euros and the nursey allowance ("Bonus nido") remain in force.
