The value of the telecommunications sector for Italy

On Monday 28 February, The European House - Ambrosetti presented the results of the study "The value of the telecommunications sector for the Italian National System", within the digital event "The TELCO crisis in Italy: 3 proposals to relaunch the sector" organised by WINDTRE.

The event has made it possible to take stock of the value of a sector that generates an annual turnover of over 71 billion euros in Italy, creates an added value of 38.1 billion euros and supports almost 220 thousand employees, with increasing investments that, in the last decade, have reached a cumulative value of almost 65 million euros, in support of the growing demand for connectivity by Italians, and digitization of the country and its businesses.

To ensure the continuity of contribution and value creation of this sector, the study has identified three proposals from which to start, fueling the debate on the prospects for development and growth of the TELCO sector in Italy: encouraging investments in telecommunications infrastructures, by acting on regulatory simplification and by encouraging public-private partnerships; encouraging the dissemination of a digital culture, which can make the most of the potential offered by telecommunications; encouraging investments in telecommunications by companies, moving from a logic of cost to that of investment.

The event was attended by: Gianluca Corti (Chief Executive Officer, WINDTRE), Hon. Laura Castelli (Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance) and Hon. Antonio Palmieri (co-founder of the Parliamentary Intergroup for technological innovation).
