Wine Community

Scenarios, strategies, and policies for the wine industry in Italy, with a focus on the Oltrepò Pavese.

Why should we talk about wine?

The Italian wine industry is undergoing a period of profound change. On the one hand, geopolitical uncertainty and declining consumption are reshaping demand; on the other, climate change is forcing new production strategies.

Through a year-long ongoing research effort - open to companies, consortia, institutions, and stakeholders - TEHA Group's Wine Community (Visione Vino Community) aims to help companies and territories anticipate trends, strengthen competitiveness, and promote areas such as Oltrepò Pavese (below the Po river, in Northern Italy), where history, quality, and significant potential for further growth coexist.

At the end of the Community's annual program, the “Visione Vino” Forum (Voghera, Teatro Valentino Garavani, October 16-17, 2026) will offer a preview the Visione Vino 2026 Strategic Report, which will also explore the evolution of domestic wine consumption and international markets.

On October 16-17, 2026, the Forum “Deep Roots, a Vision of the Future” will take place, marking the closing event of the first edition of the Wine Community and bringing together the Italian wine sector to discuss the future. The title reflects our commitment to exploring the heritage and strengths that have made Italian wine a globally recognized excellence, while addressing with foresight and resilience the transformations affecting consumer behavior, climate conditions, and global markets. Voghera, in the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese region, provides the natural setting for this dialogue.

This event will consolidate the insights and evidence gathered over a year of meetings and round tables, during which the Community engaged its Partner companies in discussions on the key priorities for the competitiveness of the sector. Each meeting was supported by in-depth research conducted by TEHA’s Working Group and enriched by the contributions of the Scientific Committee, composed of Gabriele Gorelli, Italy’s first Master of Wine, Enrico Giovannini, Founder and Scientific Director of the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS), and Roberta Garibaldi, President of the Italian Food and Wine Tourism Association and Professor at the University of Bergamo.

During the Forum, the Community will present its first Strategic Report, which gathers national and international best practices and sets out actionable recommendations for the Italian wine value chain. The objective is to create a shared framework of visions, strategies, tools, and operational models to support the sector’s development within the broader international context.

Press conference

The Wine Community was presented to the public and the media on January 20, 2026, with a press conference held in Milan, at the Lombardy Region heaquarters.

"We wanted to host the presentation of the first Oltrepò Wine Community Forum at Palazzo Lombardia to highlight the centrality of a region that has always been renowned for its wine production and which, thanks to a genuine alliance between institutions and the support of a strategic vision, will be able to embark on new paths of development. Voghera, my city, will be the protagonist of this event, capable of taking on the challenges related to innovation, best practices, the enhancement of human capital, and increasingly sustainable production," commented Elena Lucchini, Councilor for Family, Social Solidarity, Disability, and Equal Opportunities of the Lombardy Region

Oltrepò Pavese: Italian excellence

Oltrepò Pavese is home of the Pinot Noir, with almost 3,000 hectares dedicated to its cultivation, equal to 24.9% of the total vineyard area: a figure that makes it the leading national production area. A heritage built up over more than 150 years of history, further strengthened by a very high percentage of certified vineyards (98%) and a variety of soils that allow the grape variety to express itself in many forms, from still reds to Metodo Classico, rosés, and white wines.

“This area has potential that has not yet been fully realized: despite having over 2,800 hectares of Pinot Noir, certified production stands at less than one million bottles between Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico DOCG and Pinot Nero DOC, a gap that represents one of the main strategic opportunities for the future of this territory and one of the main areas of analysis for the Community,” emphasizes Benedetta Brioschi, Partner and Head of Food&Retail at TEHA Group.
