Education for the 21st century – The driver of a new renaissance and competitiveness for Italy

The European House – Ambrosetti study on behalf of HP Italy examines innovation in educational models throughout the world and offers a number of proposals:

  1. Promote a new architectural approach for educational environments;
  2. Launch experimentation within Italian schools to test new educational models and new technologies (“EduSTART” project);
  3. Create an annual national educationprize for the best schools, teachers and principals.

Education is an investment in competitiveness and Italy is behind the most advanced benchmarks in international student test results. In fact, a modern educational system must aim at guaranteeing the “democratization” of education, provide tools for employability in our digital age and prepare citizens who are aware. Full autonomy for schools, teacher training, transparent assessment, continuous updating of competences and the involvement of all public and private players in education are an absolute necessity for Italy.

The study, presented at the Forum in Cernobbio on September 6, 2014, was guided by an Advisory Board comprised of Esko Aho (former Prime Minister of Finland), Enrico Giovannini (former Minister of Labor and Social Policies) and Francesco Profumo (former Minister of Education, University and Research).
