ASEAN Countries have in fact identified the strengthening of connectivity as a key priority for the area. It is also a tool for successfully addressing the main challenges ahead.
The underlying strategy is set out in the “Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025”. It refers to physical, institutional, and people-to-people linkages that develop a people-oriented connectivity, focusing on five intertwined pillars: Deployment of sustainable infrastructures, Realization of digital innovation, Development of seamless logistics, Achievement of Regulatory excellence and enhancement of people mobility.
The Masterplan provides the chance to boost connectivity not only across ASEAN Members States but also between ASEAN Countries and their dialogue partners. Italian operators in particular might find significant opportunities for investments, cooperation and the transfer of technologies and knowledge.
This Position Paper addresses the prospects emerging from the enhancement of connectivity across the ASEAN area, highlighting the main aspects of this challenge and identifying the main opportunities for cooperation with Italian operators and was presented during the first “High Level Dialogue on ASEAN Italy Economic Relations”, which took place in Jakarta on May 15 and 16, 2017.
