EU attractiveness and challenges ahead. What priorities for the new European Commission?

This working paper seeks to identify and outline the main priorities for the future European Agenda, in particular for the European Commission’s next term extending from 2019 to 2024. To provide a high-level framework of guidance that is as authoritative and inclusive as possible, the document will leverage on:

  • analysis of both the European Union’s current strengths supporting its competitiveness and attractiveness and weaknesses hindering EU future success;
  • our own interviews with a pool of major European stakeholders, including business and political leaders.

The analysis and findings discussed in the following paragraphs benefit from the results that emerged during the 12th Observatory on Europe Forum and from the discussion that took place among the participants at that event. The “Observatory on Europe” is a 14-year-old international think tank on the competitiveness and integration of the EU, conceived and set up in 2005 by The European House – Ambrosetti.
