Report “THE BANKS OF TOMORROW”

On the occasion of the 30th “The Outlook for the Economy and Finance” Workshop, the study on the transformation currently underway in the banking sector, prepared by the Ambrosetti Club in partnership with Openjobmetis, was presented.

The context in which banks are operating is undergoing major change due to technological evolution and evolution in clientele (private individuals and businesses), which require new modes of dialogue and interaction. A number of exogenous and endogenous conditions in the banking sector highlight the need for serious reflection on the possible directions the financial institutions will have to take in the near future, and that will have a strong impact on the entire ecosystem in which they operate, none of its stakeholders excluded (clientele, employees, suppliers, etc.). Just to mention the main ones:

changes in the behavioral models of consumers and businesses;

the impact of the spread of new digital technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, the Internet of Things, etc.);

the thrust of some deregulation moves (such as PSD2);

the prolonged situation of low interest rates and practically flat yield curves.

It is in this context that The European House – Ambrosetti and Openjobmetis produced the study by Ambrosetti Club “The Banks of Tomorrow”, with the aim of understanding the impacts of the transition currently taking place, with particular attention to the implications on strategies, offering, organization models and “human capital”.

The survey made for the study, in collaboration with Openjobmetis, clearly reveals the progressive reduction of loyalty on the part of the business community, the decreased interaction of Italian SMEs with the banks, and the shift toward new digital tools.
