Over the last decade, the Facial Action Coding System, a neuroscience brainchild, has been adopted and evolved extensively, also as a result of the advent of more sophisticated digital technologies that are increasingly less-expensive, such as smart cameras, imaging capture software and biometric data recognition, as well as machine learning applications.

What we are experiencing today is the fourth development cycle of capitalist economies, the 4.0 Industrial Revolution (4IR), dominated by technologies connected with the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, big data analytics and additive manufacturing. The process of digital transformation currently underway is totally pervasive and aims at completely transforming industrial frameworks and models.

According to studies presented at the SAP Executive Summit, 86% of Chief Executives consider digital transformation a necessity, but only 54% think they should have a front-line role in its planning and implementation.
