BOAO FORUM FOR ASIA ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2019

In 2019 and for the third consecutive year, The European House – Ambrosetti will be leading the Italian delegation to the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2019 (BFA AC2019), which took place March 26-29, 2019 in Boao – Hainan, China, only a few days after Xi Jinping’s official visit to Italy.

The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) is a non-profit NGO whose goal is to offer a platform for high-level dialog among government, business and academia to discuss together the most urgent issues for Asia and the world as a whole.

The annual conference, in particular, is designed to promote cooperation and coordination among Asian countries and between Asia and the rest of the world, as well as foster networking among the corporate and institutional elite taking part in it. Each year, 10-15 heads of state speak at Boao before an audience of over 2,000 delegates.

In a world which is experiencing more and more readjustments of the geo-economic equilibrium, The European House – Ambrosetti believes that the Boao Forum for Asia represents a platform that can offer a preferential overview on the evolution and dynamics of the Asian continent, as well as to build and develop new relationships. For this reason, we have pooled our efforts with those of the forum organizers to have a greater business and institutional presence at this important Asian event.

The friendship with Italy was confirmed once again in March 2018 with the election of Prof. Romano Prodi as the sole European member of the new Board, which also boasts the presence of Ban Ki Moon as its Chairman. To strengthen this collaboration, The European House – Ambrosetti and Boao Forum for Asia formally drafted a memo of intent, signed on July 9, 2018 in Beijing, with the objective of launching a new Europe-China platform, within which the first edition of the Asia-Europe Leaders’ Cooperation Dialogue, held on December 4-5, 2018 in Rome, was organized.

As part of this collaboration, Li Baodong, Secretary General, BOAO Forum for Asia and Zhou Xiaochuan, Vice Chairman, Boao Forum for Asia, participated in the 44th edition of the Forum “Intelligence on the World, Europe and Italy” held September 7-8-9, 2018 at Villa d’Este. Currently, the co-organizers are working on the second edition of the conference.

The Italian delegation to the Boao Forum for Asia in 2017 has been strengthened both qualitatively and quantitatively and for 2019 the Italian delegation to the Annual Conference will be the largest ever, with over 25 delegates registered, between businesses and institutions. These are the companies that have been represented at the 2019 edition: Banca Intesa Sanpaolo, BonelliErede, Candy Hoover Group, Fincantieri, Gefran, In3act Business Consulting, Savino Del Bene, Snam, Spal Group. In addition to these companies, important companies of the Chinese community in Italy have  been present, such as KM Srl, Weihang Garment Co. Ltd and Zhongshang Huimin Business Ltd.

From the institutional standpoint, Italy has been well represented by Giovanni Tria, Minister of the Economy and Finance, who was also a speaker in Rome, by Michele Geraci, Undersecretary to the Ministry for Economic Development, and Fabio Panetta, Vice Governor of the Bank of Italy, as well as by a representation of the Italian Embassy in China.
