Clear-cut the opinion of the vast majority of the over 200 businessmen attending the “Intelligence on the World, Europe and Italy” Forum underway in Cernobbio and organized by The European House – Ambrosetti. In the first online survey, participants were asked what factors will have greatest impact on global stability.

In fact, according to 63.4% of them, the most important factor resides in the implications of trade protectionism, followed by the issue of immigration and border controls (40.9%), and the spread of populism in Europe (36.6%).

Trailing behind were other issues, such as Chinese economic hegemony (28.2%); heightened tension between the US and Iran in the Gulf and the Iranian nuclear program and a new nuclear arms race following the conclusion of the INF treaty (16.9%); and friction between Russia and Western powers due to the Ukrainian conflict (11.3%).
