Murat Salim Esenli has been Ambassador of Turkey to Italy since November 2016. Previously, he served as Deputy Undersecretary for European Affairs from 2013 to 2016, and as Ambassador of Turkey to the People’s Republic of China from 2009 to 2013. He was also Chief Negotiator for Turkish accension to the European Union from 2007 to 2009.
Ambassador Murat Salim Esenli was born in Ankara in 1962. He received his BA from the American University in Washington, D.C. in Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics and Government and his MA in International Relations, International Law and the US Government from the Saint John’s University in New York.
Over the years Ambassador Esenli has delivered lectures on the subjects of diplomatic analysis and Turkish foreign policy at the Military Academy in İstanbul, and at several other academic institutions in Turkey and abroad.
